BalletLab’s Phillip Adams to host workshop

BalletLab’s Phillip Adams BalletLab Artistic Director Phillip Adams is inviting dancers to participate in his next artistic development project through a two-day workshop he’ll hold on September 3 and 4.

Adams, along with collaborating artist Gregory Lorenzutti, will lead the workshop, which will serve as a preparatory research period for Adams’ upcoming commission for prestigious Brazilian ballet company Companhia de Ballet da Cidade de Niterói (Niteroi City Ballet). Titled Pacific, Adams’ new work for CBNC will investigate the exoticization of traditional ceremony and the cultural pageantry of dance rituals like Rio’s famous annual Carnival.

Inside the collision of cultures, Adams is interested in imposing order through fluid bouts of contact improvisation played against traditional dance rhythms. He conducts his process through many unexpected experiments that disrupt known form.

To register for the $70 workshop, email Kristy Ayre at kristy@balletlab.com by Friday, August 26. Candidates should include their name, address and a short bio. This opportunity is the only chance to experience a professional development workshop with Adams in Australia in 2016 – so register now to avoid disappointment!
