Bangarra to launch ‘Bennelong’ tour in Sydney

Bangarra Dance Theatre's 2017 SeasonBangarra Dance Theatre will kick off its national tour of Bennelong on June 30 at Sydney Opera House, with subsequent performances running till September 16 throughout the country.

The work, choreographed by Artistic Director Stephen Page, is inspired by the incredible true events involving Woollarawarre Bennelong, a senior man of the Eora, from the Port Jackson area in Sydney.

With music by Steve Francis, costumes by Jennifer Irwin and lighting by Nick Schlieper, Bennelong promises to demonstrate what Bangarra does best – celebrate Australia’s rich history.

Bangarra Executive Director Philippe Magid previously stated, “The company’s strength is its capacity to create inspiring and positive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experiences for all.”
