‘Split Second Heroes’ premieres in Adelaide

Gabrielle Nankivell's Split Second HeroesThe Adelaide Festival Centre will soon present the world premiere of Gabrielle Nankivell’s Split Second Heroes as part of its inSPACE program. Coming to the Space Theatre from Thursday, July 27 to Saturday, July 29, the work is being billed as a “technicolour action-adventure” that is “intensely physical” and “highly theatrical.”

Split Second Heroes is an imaginative return to contemporary dance as story. Sci-fi-esque technology, virtuosic dance and some weird and wonderful tales share the stage as one man delivers his not-Ted-talk story of himself. Starring everyone’s favourite anti-heroes – White, Black and Grey – Split Second Heroes is described as “an endearingly eccentric, superbly physical, high-tech take on the age-old quest for self-discovery.”

The concept, direction, text and choreography are all by Nankivell
, the recipient of the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship, two Impulstanz Vienna DanceWEB Scholarships, the inaugural Keith Bain Choreographic Travel Fellowship in 2014 and the 2015 Tanja Liedtke Fellowship.

The original score, sound design and interactive software are by Nankivell’s frequent collaborator Luke Smiles and motion laboratories
. Completing the creative team is Will O’Mahony (dramaturgy) and Benjamin Cisterne (set and lighting.)

Split Second Heroes will be performed by Nankivell, Smiles and Vincent Crowley
. The technical components of the show (sound and light) will actually be operated completely live by the performers.
